FOUNDATIONAL MATERIALS
1. Student Notebook
The student notebook can be purchased directly from Equipping Minds as a physical copy and have it mailed to you ($29), or you can purchase a digital copy ($19) and then print it.*
*Important: If you choose to purchase the digital version, be sure to print in color ink!
You can purchase it here.
2. Three-ring Binder
You will place your student notebook pages in a three-ring binder. A 1-inch or 1.5-inch binder works great.
If you purchase a physical copy of the student notebook, please take it apart, place each page in a sheet protector, and put the pages in the three-ring binder.
3. Sheet Protectors
You will need to place each page of your student notebook inside a sheet protector.
We recommend a pack of 50 sheet protectors to cover the student notebook pages along with supplemental materials you may choose to include in the binder.
4. Dry Erase Markers and Eraser
You will need a set of dry erase markers. Having at least a couple of different colors is best, but no specific colors are required. We recommend fine tip or ultra fine tip.
Some sort of eraser is also helpful. Students have used pieces of fleece or small microfiber sponges in addition to a traditional dry marker eraser.
5. Equipping Minds Card Game
This card game will be used for an endless number of games and activities throughout the program.
You can purchase it directly through Equipping Minds, by clicking here.
6. Unifix Cubes
Be sure to purchase a set with all of these colors: green, blue, red, yellow, black, orange, brown, white, and purple. These will be used quite a bit. You may want to also purchase a small pouch to keep them in.
We recommend this set, available on Amazon.
7. Color Code Game
This is a great hands-on activity that tackles executive functioning among other brain modalities. We will work on this during sessions and assign review for at home.
It is available on Amazon, here.
8.Spot It Game
There seems to be an endless number of themes available for the game of Spot It! Choose the original or a specific theme that suits you best. We have enjoyed camping, fishing, and vacation themes, in addition to holiday themes, specific movie or tv show themes, and even some that combine basic pictures with words. 6-8 items on each game card is ideal, depending on the age of the student.
You can find several options on Amazon. The original Spot It game is linked here.
9. SET Card Game
This is a great hands-on activity that tackles executive functioning among other brain modalities. We will work on this during sessions and assign review for at home.
It is available on Amazon, here.
10. BLINK Card Game
BLINK is a fun game that helps students work on their brain’s processing functions. We will start slow and work on beginning stages of recognition before increasing in difficulty and speed.
It is available for purchase here.
11. The Uzzle Stack Royale Game
Uzzle Stack Royale is a fun activity targeting the brain’s ability to remember colors and patterns while also working on fine motor skills and executive functioning. It has several levels and allows students to build confidence as the game advances.
You can purchase Uzzle Stack Royale here.
12. Handheld White Board with lines
If your student is taking the sound/symbol connection for better reading and handwriting, a handheld white board with lines like paper will be needed.
it is available for purchase here.
13. Primitive Reflex Questionnaire
Please complete this questionnaire prior to your first session to provide insight regarding your primitive reflex status. This is an important part of the program.
The body acts as both a receiver of information and a vehicle for storing and expressing knowledge. When a child has retained primitive reflexes, their ability to focus may be compromised. These reflexes can cause the child to become distracted by environmental noises or other stimuli, preventing the brain from focusing on essential tasks such as reading, writing, listening, or making logical decisions in stressful situations.
Much like a car, if the components of the body are not properly aligned or functioning, the brain (the "engine") cannot perform optimally. Speech, language, behavior, emotions, and attention are all interrelated with the functioning of the motor system. It is important to remember that the body operates on a “use it or lose it” principle. Without regular movement exercises and developmental support, the brain may lose its capacity for repair, and there may come a time when restoration is no longer possible.
Now is the time to take proactive steps to rewire the brain and restore the necessary connections in both the child’s and the adult’s neurological development.
